jay wrote:I don't control volume via Airfoil at the moment - just via iTunes. I'm using "System Audio" as the input option in Airfoil and Soundflower to output all sound from my server to the zones so I don't have to worry about switching audio sources between iTunes/PlaySound/IndigoServer whenever I need something else to make noise. In effect, when I adjust volume, it's only iTunes volume that's being changed.

I do have the Airfoil sync and attachment scripts that I'll eventually get cleaned up and added to the file library but it won't have any volume stuff in it.

Finally figured out the syntax:

tell application "Airfoil"
set mySpeaker to (first speaker whose name is "computer")
set mySpeaker's volume to (mySpeaker's volume) + 0.1
end tell

replace "computer" with your Airport Express name and you now have independent volume control per zone.

Thanks to Chris Barajas @ Rogue Amoeba Software for his help!

The iPad brings it all together for me - a large touch screen that can push all the buttons!

I replaced the Nokias 800 for the ipads. I just love this setup. I use the Atomic browser for the full "kiosk like" screen.

Thanks Jay. Yes those are the music controlling pages using Squeeze boxes. As you may note in the lighting controlling pages there is a "speaker" like icon at the top left corner. Pressing that icon takes me to the music controlling pages. Also you may note that at the same top let corner of the music pages there is a "bulb" like icon that would take me to the lighting controlling pages.

I finally got around to coding a new control page for my iPad. The page is in its early stages of development and will evolve as I use it, but here is a pic of where I am heading. Home realtime energy monitoring is via T.E.D. (The Energy Detective).

Is there a way to link from directly from an iPad Indigo control page to the new Squeezepad app for control of Squeezebox Server? And then get back to the Indigo page? Without any delay from changing applications?

Guys,
Great stuff for those of us beginning to branch out and upgrade our systems, tons of ideas found throughout this post!

Jay, any word on those airfoil scripts, I'm doing a basic version of that myself right now but that looks like a cleaner setup you've got going on.

Thanks,
Rum

Been too busy to get those ready for posting - maybe I'll get to it this week.

Email the developer and ask if they included links within iOS to their app.

I.E. Facebook has this: fb://

If you write that in Safari it should open a blank page in your Facebook app (assuming you have this installed).

I'm afraid that adding them might be in violation of Apple copyrights - it's unclear. And being unclear is enough for me to avoid it. As I said above, creating the buttons isn't that hard - just install Xcode, use Interface Builder to create the buttons, and take a screen shot. The only adjusting you have to do is around the corners. It's time consuming, but not hard.

I'll discuss with Matt to see what his thoughts are about copyright issues - maybe he's more comfortable with it. If so, we'll consider adding them in 5.0.

Actuelly, in the iOS Human Interface guidelines ( under NDA ) Apple expects developers to develop Apps and content (think Webapps) that closely resembles the iOS user interface to ease "the flow of the app" for end users.

Jay,

out of curiosity, what do you use for as an amplifier attached between the airport express and the speakers?

Hi Jay,
I'm trying to recreate your Thermostat buttons but Interface Builder will only save files in XIB. Any way to convert to PNG ?

I have created a Photoshop psd that provides layers for a four tabbed iOS-like interface. The text is in its own layer and can be edited so if you need On, Off, Heat Cool, etc just change the labels and you're set. The file is already setup with Slices so all you need to do is perform the Save As Web... and output with slices and you're set!

Hope this helps and happy new year!

The Grab application is your friend...

I just screen grabbed the images as I manipulated them in IB then cleaned them up in an editing app.
