Post Newbie Question on window AC units
I am new to home automation, and I just downloaded the Indigo software.

My first goal is to schedule on/off of a window air conditioner.
It is a standard 110V unit rated 11,500 BTU. Which Insteon module should I get?

I'm not sure. Do you know how many amps it draws or its wattage rating? The AC compressor would be considered an inductive load, so for a standard ApplianceLinc the max is only 480 watts. I think the outdoor appliance module has a higher rating for inductive loads though, so that might be a better (albeit not as attractive) solution.

I believe it draws no more than 15A and 1500 Watts.

I don't have a spec for the exact model of AC that I have. But, I looked up this model which is rated at 15,100 BTU, higher than my 11,500 BTU model. And, if you scroll down the page, on the left under Power and Performance it is rated at 12A for Cooling Amperage and 1410 for Cooling Wattage.

So, to be safe, I would go with 15A and 1500 Watts. That said, would you have specific modules you would recommend for use with my AC unit?

Thanks again for your help!

:)

I think the safest bet would be the outdoor appliance module.

Thank you so much, Matt, for your advice. I will get this device. It's not a bad-looking product at all.
