Post Monitoring Wall Switch for Motion Sensor Override
I am trying to replicate the useful project shown here:
http://www.perceptiveautomation.com/wiki/doku.php?id=ms_overriding_with_switch
to defeat a motion sensor turning off a light when the switch was used to turn it on. I understand the concept and the approach, but I have a problem with actually monitoring the switch to set the override variable. It appears that the wall switches do not send X10 commands when using the button. I'm I missing something basic? The article states up front under needs - "A switch that controls the light - again, any type will do".

My wall switch is a basic WS477. How do I monitor this if it doesn't send a command when pressed?

Unfortunately, it does require a 2-way X10 switch (or any INSTEON switch). The WS477 is a receive-only module and never transmits out when it is controlled at the switch itself. I just corrected the wiki article with these additional details.

I had a similar problem. We have a guest room and run a random simulated occupancy schedule when the room is unused. I figured that if the switch was manually operated, I could stop the schedule for 24 hours. We do have INSTEON here, but I had no neutral in the switch box (old house syndrome). I finally ended up adding a neutral (big job) but before I did I was ready to try something like this...

Connect a small line voltage relay across the light leads so that the relay operates whenever the light is on. Then, wire the contacts of the relay across the input leads on an X10 DS10a or an X10 PowerFlash interface. Then listen for the DS10a in Indigo. Ok, it is a little hokey, and you do need an appropriate receiver for the DS10a. But, it works and if you don't have a nice alternative it may be worth thinking about... or, get a 2-way X10 switch ;-)

Thanks - that's what I thought, but just wanted to check to be sure I wasn't missing anything. I'll find a 2-way switch or get more creative.
