Post Email Alert From Unique Sound (Apt. Buzzer)
I live in an apartment building in NY with a dedicated video/buzzer entry system for all units, so I cannot install anything on the outside of the building like a doorbell that could integrate with Indigo 5. Are there any insteon devices on the market that could be programed to learn and listen out for a special sound?

The buzzer is a typical (grating) buzzzzzzz that's also pretty loud. My thinking is that I could set up a trigger to send me an email if someone buzzed my apartment (insteon device registered the learned sound, heard from inside my unit from the buzzer system) from outside when I'm not home. Of course, I wouldn't know who it was, but it would be nice to get a heads up that someone is buzzing my unit at the moment. Or, that I missed someone I was expecting because I'm running late -- allowing me to call them and tell them I should be there shortly.

I don't know about listening for a sound - but you might be able to get into the buzzer mechanism itself and attach an some kind of IO sensing device to it such that it recognized when the buzzer engaged. Something to think about perhaps.

Curious about this, as well.. I live in an older building with a standard talk/listen/open "buzzer" system. I was able to get an IOLinc to trigger the buzzer to open the door downstairs but am also looking to somehow have the the IOLinc input recognize when someone is pressing the button downstairs.. I see that phidget has a sound sensor device but that needs to connect to another module of theirs which then hits the Mac via USB - extending USB 50ft or buying their SBC w/ wfi isn't really an option..

Figured I'd check to see if anyone may be aware of another option (relay?) from looking at an image of the setup?

The black wires are the o/p of the IOLinc. Thanks!

A quick google search for "sound sensor relay" turned up this:

I would think something like this would work when feeding IOLinc inputs.. Will likely give it a shot.

Smarthome sells an audio/video probe that hooks to the input of an IOLinc. It worked for me. In my quest we looked at several possible solutions as detailed in this thread.

Good luck!
