Brief Indigo History

From the beginning, Indigo was built as an easy to use do-it-yourself (DIY) product for the consumer market. We launched with X10 support - which was the most popular entry-level home automation technology and had wide-spread acceptance in that market. Several years after that, SmartLabs debuted INSTEON - which brought the DIY market much closer in reliability to hardwired solutions but still at a fraction of the cost. We immediately jumped on board and are now the most comprehensive Mac-based INSTEON solution on the market.

The range of INSTEON controlled devices now spans not only dimmer and relay modules for lighting control but also infrared transmitters/receivers, sprinkler controllers, thermostats, motion and contact sensors, input/output devices, etc. Many of these devices need a little extra knowledge and understanding to configure and use effectively. Along with these devices are also a wide range of single purpose devices, such as alarm panels and video surveillance systems, that can be integrated into Indigo in various ways.

At the same time, however, we're finding the general consumer market is becoming more aware of home automation technologies and the benefits that come with home automation. So, there are more technologies to help automate the home, many of which require some more technical knowledge to configure and integrate, and a broader market for a low-cost integrated home automation system.
